On May 3, 1999, my city was slammed hard by an F5+ tornado with the fastest winds ever recorded anywhere-- a minimum of 318 mph!!  A total of 44 people were killed (the youngest, 3 weeks old) from this tornado and hundreds injured in Oklahoma City and it's suburbs.  Damage to property was over one billion dollars.

This tornado came a little over 4 years after the Oklahoma City bombing (April 19, 1995) of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal building--168 men, women and children killed.  A memorial to those killed in the bombing has been built and was dedicated on April 19, 2000.

THESE PHOTOS WERE TAKEN ABOUT ONE WEEK AFTER THE DEVASTATING TORNADO
OF MAY 3, 1999 ROARED INTO TOWN.  IT  DAMAGED LARGE AREAS OF SOUTHWEST OKLAHOMA CITY,
AND PARTS OF THE SUBURBS OF MOORE AND DEL CITY, OKLAHOMA.

THESE PICTURES SHOW ONLY A SMALL PORTION OF THE DAMAGE THAT WAS DONE TO OUR CITY
AND IS MEANT TO GIVE YOU AN IDEA WHAT A TORNADO CAN DO.
